FAQ
Q. What is your photographic style?
A. I offer a blend of photojournalistic coverage with relaxed traditional portraiture. I like to describe my style as freestyle wedding coverage, as we try to capture in photos your entire event in an unobtrusive way but will offer guidance if we see a shot that could be improved. We are happy to take requests and photograph the bridal party and family group poses throughout the day. We do recommend that you select a package with 2 photographers or pay for the second shooter with your package if you want things like table shots or forsee a lot of requests from family members for photos throughout the day. We will do everything we can to accomodate your requests, but our main concern is covering the B&G.
Q. How many pictures do you take?
A. There is no limit on number of photos taken, we are there to record your event and all of the celebrations that take place throughout the day.
Q. Do you require a retainer?
A. YES. We do require a retainer to reserve the date of your wedding. Weddings are typically booked well in advance of their date – often years in advance. Our retainer is goes toward your coverage and guarantees that your date is reserved for you and you alone. We cannot guarantee a date is reserved without both the retainer fee and signed contract.
Q. Do you offer on-line viewing and ordering of my wedding photographs?
A. YES! We offer online viewing of your wedding pictures – typically 2-4 weeks after your wedding date. Family and friends can view all the photos taken and order their favorites on-line.
Q. How quickly will I receive my prints?
A. After your online gallery is up, we order your proof book with select photos, up to the number of images included in your package. Proof books are completed and sent out approximately a week after we order them from the printer. If your package includes an album, Coffee Table or Designer Albums are normally completed within two to three weeks upon placement of your order.
Q. What Album Companies do you use?
A. We no longer use album companies. What we have found is that albums companies are not always consistent in their quality and it is often a great deal of trouble and time to get some of them to correct quality errors on products that they deliver. We have chosen to take the entire album production process in-house and now offer unique one-of-a-kind albums to each of our wedding photography clients.
Our albums are totally unique and unlike anything you will receive from other photographers in the area. Each one is handmade through careful process that delivers a unique and beautiful product. One thing that really does make them special is that we can deliver an album with just about any type of cover material that you desire. (With the exception of furs and animal hides of endangered species or other items that may be illegal or otherwise questionable in nature.) We can use a piece of your wedding gown, cloth that matches a special dress, silk matching a Sari, or even match your curtains if you like. We have a selection of book cloths for you to choose from and can even use cloth that you provide to cover your book. The selections and combinations are almost limitless.
Beyond the ability to offer a unique product, we make our own albums because to be honest we are just not impressed with the quality of most albums that are produced. A lot of album manufacturers charge a lot of $$$ for products that have flimsy pages, thin covers and that are just not something that I am proud to present to a client. When I make and present an album to you, you can be sure that it will be something that I would be proud to have in my own home, and in fact do.
Q. How quickly will I receive my Albums?
If your package includes an album, there are different time frames that you can expect. If you order a “storybook album”, it is designed by the studio after the proof book has been delivered. Design time can vary by the number of images that were taken as well as with the time of year and our volume. We take a lot of care in designing the best album that describes your day in pictures and do not rush the creative process. Typically, a storybook album will be sent out approximately 2 months after your wedding date.
If you select an “8×10” album or order parent albums, the delivery time is dependant upon you. These albums have 1 image per page that you select (they are not storybook albums with collages). We cannot start work on the album or even prepare the prints to make them until you have made your image selections. Once your selections have been made, we then order prints and start work on the albums. Since we make all of our albums in house, it can take a month from the time after you select your images until the album is completed.
Q. Do you provide black and white photography?
A. Yes. Since we shoot digital, we are able to convert all images to Black and white or Sepia format. We normally convert those images that we think would look best to black and white when we go through the images for delivery to you. If you have an image that you would like delivered in B&W, let us know when ordering the reprint and we will do the conversion at that time.
Q. Can I keep the negatives?
A. Yes. We provide a disc or discs, depending on the number of images delivered, with the high resolution JPEGs of your wedding day. These are high resolution images suitable for printing. We also provide a written letter giving you the right to reproduce your photos for personal use.
One strong recommendation that we make to every client is that you make backups of your CD or DVD’s. By their very nature, we cannot guarantee data integrity over the long term and it is best to make regular backups of your files. Unfortunately CD’s, DVD’s and hard drives do fail and the only way to guarantee that you have your files around for a lifetime is to make multiple backups of those discs on an annual basis.
Q. There are certain “must have” groups shots that I want. Can I provide you a shot list to you?
A. While we understand that you will have many people at your wedding that you only have the opportunity to see once in a while, we do not accept shot lists. What we recommend to all of our couples is that they select a friend or family member as a “guide” for the day and provide a list of shots that they want to be taken. It is the guide’s job to get these groups together and bring them to the photographer so that we can capture those images.
By their very nature wedding days can be very chaotic so it is impossible for us to guarantee that a shot list can be covered. In reality, there will be scores of people there that we do not know so there is no way for us to realistically accept a shot list and round up groups of people who we have never met before.
